What it is

Anthropic is an AI company focused on building AI systems that are safe and reliable. It develops the Claude models and the Claude assistant, available on the web, desktop and mobile, and to businesses through an API.

How it is organized

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation, a legal form that requires a company to weigh a stated public mission alongside profit. It was founded in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI researchers, including siblings Dario Amodei (CEO) and Daniela Amodei (President).
